False posts in which Tom Kenny, the voice of the infamous SpongeBob SquarePants, is declared dead are doing the rounds on social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter.

“RIP Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob. Thanks for making our childhood happier,” reads the fake post on Facebook.

“R.I.P Tom Kenny, SpongeBob's Voice .....This Picture Deserves Endless Retweets,” reads the Twitter version.

Just like other celebrities who have fallen victim to death hoaxes – including Bill Cosby, Morgan Freeman, and John Cena – Tom Kenny is alive and well.

According to Hoax Slayer, the prank went viral after an individual seeking to gather new followers and re-tweets posted the message on Twitter.

As always, we strongly advise against sharing such posts since in some cases they could carry links that point to malware-laden or phishing websites.
