The two companies announced a strategic partnership to launching an important lot of 3G compatible terminals in Europe, Australia, Japan and New Zealand. The 3G presence on these markets is relatively low, with a few exceptions in Asia.

The new project is believed to become a major success, since Toshiba and Vodafone are already together on the market for Japan, where Toshiba is one of Vodafone's most important phone suppliers.

The partnership will come into effect beginning from the second trimester. The top brand model is Vodafone TS 921, a tri-band terminal (900/1800/1900 MHz), fitted with an auto-focus 1. 92 megapixel digital camera, with built-in flash.

The 2.4 inch LCD display is suitable for watching video content, the phone being MPEG4 compatible. Video signal exporting is also supported.

The phone is video-conferencing compatible, while operating on an UMTS (3G) network.

TS 921 infrared and Bluetooth connectivity makes it easy to connect to other terminals or various mobile devices. The sound is MP3 compressed, and the phone's autonomy is of 360 hours while on stand-by and 320 hours while operating.

Vodafone is one of the companies promoting the future type of ultra-sophisticated telephony, namely Super 3D. As some of this new standard's promoters (Cingular, Siemens and Alcatel) assert, its performances will be 10 times bigger than those of the present third generation telephony (3G)
