The update will be available via Samsung Kies desktop software

UK-based carrier Vodafone announced two days ago that it will try and make the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update available for customers who purchased a Samsung Galaxy S II through its official channels.

Although Vodafone UK specifically mentioned in the short announcement that April 12 is just a temporary release date that might be subject to change, we didn’t think the carrier would be able to change it in such short notice.

Here is Vodafone’s official statement from two days ago, which confirms the approximate release date of Ice Cream Sandwich for Galaxy S II:

The Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for Samsung Galaxy S II has now been approved, and is set to be available on 12th April via Over The Air update and Samsung Kies. This is a provisional date which could change, but we'll let you know here if that's the case.”

Unfortunately, it seems that the unthinkable has just happened as Vodafone UK issued another statement saying that the update has been delayed for April 13.

However, it looks like it’s not Vodafone’s fault; Samsung notified the carrier that it would not be able to provide them with the promised update for Galaxy S II as planned.

Apparently, Galaxy S II users will be able to upgrade their smartphones to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich beginning tomorrow, April 13.

The update will only be available through Samsung Kies, and via OTA (over the air), and from April 17 it will be pushed OTA (over the air).

“Unfortunately Samsung have told us this morning that they are unable to make the update available to you as planned.

The new plan from Samsung is that the update will be available via KIES tomorrow, 13th April, and via Over The Air update on Tuesday 17th April. If this moves at all, we’ll of course let you know.

I know a lot of you, like us, will be disappointed at this last minute change of plan and we continue to challenge Samsung to make this available to you as quickly as possible.” – Vodafone.
