Why not use your mobile phone for VoIP calls over an existing network? If you own a Symbian handset, with fring you can now do that.

Fring is a free PC-independent downloadable mobile phone application based on mVoIP technology that enables all Symbian mobile phone users to talk to other fring users, Skype users or GoogleTalk contacts for free.

Basically, fring gives people the benefits of internet combined with mobile telephony. It is designed to optimize the embedded internet capabilities within a user's handset and to enable VoIP calls over 3G, GPRS and WiFi networks.

Users that are calling over 3G mobile networks will not be charged for airtime minutes and will only use the data within their existing subscription agreement. According to the company, a fring call is over 97 percent cheaper than a local GSM call.

"Enabling free mobile VoIP calls instantly from users' current mobile phones allows fring to challenge the traditional mobile operator pricing models" says Avi Shechter, co-founder and CEO of fring. "We can already see the effect through our users feedback; fring is changing the way people interact on a daily basis bringing choices to consumers & allowing them to declare their mobile independence through continuous availability over 3G, GPRS and Wi-Fi, with no PC-dependency, no call-backs, no air-time charges and no need for special handsets."

So, to use fring, all you need is a 3G handset running Symbian OS and to download the fring application to your mobile phone. It can be used at home, or on the go, through WiFi. In order to download the application you will need to register on the fring website.
