They aren't UHD models, and they aren't really supposed to be

Since the 4K resolution standard won't become a rave for a while yet, regardless of what display makers would have the world believe, moving forward with HDTV releases is the logical step.

That is why Vizio has finally announced the arrival of its M-Series Smart Television Sets. Their existence was exposed months ago, but only now is availability ramping up.

For those who've forgotten, Vizio first spoke of the M-Series lineup of HDTVs back at CES 2013 (Consumer Electronics Show), in January.

At the time, the ETA "later this year" was all anyone knew about the product range.

Now we know, thanks to a company press release, that retailers have begun to receive panels in these sizes: 32" (M321i), 40" (M401i), 47" (M471i), 50" (M501d), 55" (M551d), 60" (M601d), 65" (M651d), 70" (M701d) and 80" (M801d).

"The M-Series family offers an elegant blend of thoughtful design detailing and premium materials, presenting consumers with an HDTV they will be proud to showcase in their homes," said Scott McManigal, VIZIO VP of Industrial Design.

"The ultra-thin bezel reduces peripheral distractions and enhances the rich picture quality allowing for a superior edge-to-edge viewing experience."

All of them use LED backlighting, have ultrathin bezels, full HD 1080p and up to 240Hz effective refresh rate (Smooth Motion), 3D support on the 50+'' displays (battery-free glasses included), and an "intuitive Smart TV platform."

Which is to say that the TVs have their own software capable of tapping into the Internet. Owners can use M-GO, Facebook, Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, etc. The Vizio M-Series even have backlit smart remote controls and Wi-Fi.

The prices of the Vizio M-Series Smart HDTVs range from $400 / €311 – 400 (32-inch) to $4,000 / €3,111 – 4000. Those who think that last one is steep should consider that the sum is actually smaller than the $5000 / €3,889 – 5,000 announced originally.
