Telus, a leading mobile operator form Canada, announced the release of Telus Visual Voice Mail, a new service that allows wireless subscribers to view voice mail in both text message and email format, enhancing this way their productivity and efficiency.

With the new service, Telus' customers will be able to receive their phone messages basically anywhere around the globe, as long as they have access to Internet via their handsets or their desktop computers.

"The launch of Telus Visual Voice Mail is another step in extending our leadership in unified communications, bringing multiple modes of communication together for streamlined connectivity," said said Jim Senko, vice-president, Telus Business Solutions. "Telus is proud to be the first national company in Canada to extend this useful service beyond the popular voice mail-to-text message service, to enable customers to get their voice mail as an email. Wherever in the world they can get email, they can now read their voice mail. It's even easier to stay connected on-the-go."

The new Visual Voice Mail service uses SpinVox's Voice Message Conversion System (the same used by Alltel in the US) and is set to assist mobile workers in their tasks, by allowing them to "see what was said". For example, the service lets you view the content of your voice mail in unusual situations, like noisy environments, meetings or seminars. The content is transformed into text and sent as an email that also contains the caller's phone number, hyper-linked, hence enabling you to quickly respond the message (by text or by voice). Furthermore, the message can also be received in audio format, as attachment.

"This launch marks another significant milestone in the growth and value of voice messaging," said Christina Domecq, Chief Executive Officer of SpinVox. "In the fiercely competitive wireless environment, SpinVox enables TELUS to offer a high value service - allowing both their business and customers to increase their productivity by communicating more efficiently, saving time and avoiding some of the frustrations associated with traditional voice mail."

Telus, that has about 5.5 million customers in Canada, offers Visual Voice Mail either in a pay-per-use version (for users who don't need frequent access to voice mail in text format), or as a full unlimited service with a monthly subscription, for those who need it on a daily basis.
