14 DAY TRIAL // A company specializing in electronic handheld information has announced the release of 12 visual dictionary translation applications for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Franklin Electronic Publishers has previously provided language solutions only on its proprietary devices, but now the company has committed to releasing its ViDICTO+ Mytrip applications for download to 3rd-party devices such as Apple’s.
Currently available in 11 language pairs (either English or German-centric), the ViDICTO+ Mytrip applications sell for $5.99 each. A compact version of the English-to-Spanish pair is available for free, the company says in a report. The apps use their locally stored data, so they don’t need an Internet connection to work.
The visual-based dictionary applications enable users to look up words and even phrases through a variety of categories, and by linking the language to an activity or location, according to Franklin Electronic Publishers. Moreover, the software combines pictures, spoken language and written words in order to present words and phrases and aid memorization. For quizzes, there is a trainer mode available, the company says.
