After the official announcement of the new Battlefield Hardline, many fans of the first-person shooter series were a little disappointed with the new title and a rumor spread that the team at DICE was leading development on the multiplayer side of the title, while Visceral Games was focused on the single player.

Now Steve Papoutsis, the general manager of the studio, has made it clear, via a message on his Twitter feed, that his team is leading the development effort on both core modes and that the team at DICE is only involved as a collaborator.

Battlefield Hardline will allow gamers to experience the conflict between law enforcement agencies and criminal cartels, with a new focus on close quarters combat, investigations and car chases.

In the single-player mode, players will become an agent who has to deal with a major drug bust and finds himself hunted as he seeks to reveal the corruption that’s impeding the war against drugs.

The multiplayer will introduce a number of new modes that are designed to deliver a more intense experience and to allow the police and the criminals to wield a variety of unique weapons and gadgets as they hunt each other.

Battlefield Hardline is at the moment set to be launched at some point during the fall in order to compete with the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare release from developer Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision.

No platforms have yet been mentioned, but the game will probably arrive on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, the PC and current-gen consoles.

Visceral Games has not said exactly what DICE is contributing with when it comes to the creation of Battlefield Hardliner, but the Swedish-based studio is probably making sure that the Frostbite 3 engine delivers a superior graphics experience.

This is the first time in the history of the series that the multiplayer mode has not been handled directly by the team at DICE.

At the moment, the company is working on a new Star Wars Battlefront title, which will probably be launched at some point next year, and on a new Mirror’s Edge experience.

They are also still involved with Battlefield 4, which is set to get more content and balance updates in the coming months.

The Dragon’s Teeth DLC is set to be delivered soon and the team has also promised that the Community Test Environment will be expanded.
