Intego lowers price and allows two computers on a single license

Intego, the self-touted Mac security specialist, has launched VirusBarrier X6 for Mac OS X, an upgrade to the VirusBarrier X5 anti-malware software sold and advertised by the company over the past year. VirusBarrier X6 is said to provide comprehensive protection from both malware and network threats.

Noting that VirusBarrier X6 is currently the only antivirus program for Mac that includes full antivirus and anti-malware protection – including a two-way firewall, network protection, anti-phishing, and anti-spyware features –, Intego acknowledges that protection constantly needs to be reinforced, as malware always changes.

“While viruses, Trojan horses, worms and other forms of malware are a constant threat to computers of all kinds, cyber-criminals are turning to new techniques to infect and control Macs,” the security firm explains. “These new threats come silently, with little warning, over the Internet: in many cases, simply visiting a booby-trapped web page can compromise a Mac. Focusing on malware or network attacks alone is no longer sufficient to protect Macs from the dangers of the Internet,” Intego stresses.

“VirusBarrier X6, the latest version of Intego's network and malware security program, includes threat-detection techniques, improved methods of detection, combined detection protocols, proactive behavioral analysis, and a full range of defensive functions. VirusBarrier X6 protects Macs from all known network-based threats, as well as all known malware,” Intego adds.

On its website, the company posts a huge list of improvements and new features to the VirusBarrier software. It also mentions that it has listened to customers’ requests, therefore dropped the program’s price. “[...] We made VirusBarrier X6 much less expensive than the X5 version,” Intego says.

A standard license costs € 59.95 and protects two Macs now, with many customers revealing they have both desktop and laptop Macs, and want to be able to use VirusBarrier on both computers. Given the low rate of viruses affecting Mac users, the price is still rather high, Softpedia believes.

The software can be used for 30 days for free. Limitations also include a disabled repair function for whatever viruses the program will find after scanning your volumes. In order to use the repair function, you will need to purchase a license.
