Palmer Luckey, the founder and chief executive officer at Oculus Rift, believes that virtual reality represents the true next-generation gaming experience that the player community has been looking for.
The hardware creator tells VG247, “That’s really what first-person games are meant to do. I think that virtual reality – it’s very clear that people want this. They see it and they say ‘This is something I want; I want to be in these worlds’.”
Luckey says that players do not see mobile gaming or casual experiences as next-gen elements.
At the moment, Oculus Rift is shipping to developers and the general public will get access to the virtual-reality headset later during the 2013.
It’s unclear whether the technology will get significant support from development teams.
Both Sony and Microsoft will launch their next device, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox 720, before the end of the year.
