SEGA and Sony have just announced they have teamed up to offer Xperia phone owners the highly-acclaimed Virtua Tennis franchise.

For the time being, “Virtua Tennis Challenge” is only compatible with Xperia smartphones, such as Xperia PLAY, ray, Neo and arc. However, the game might be made available for other Android devices in the future.

“Virtua Tennis Challenge” brings all the fun provided by the console games on the Android platform. Although the title was recently launched, gamers who purchased it claim that it’s simply amazing.

After dumping close to one hundred hours of my life into the arcade and console titles, I am happy to say that Virtua Tennis Challenge is for the Xperia Play is excellent,” says Prakash.

The game offers Android users the chance to challenge 50 players in 18 stadiums in all regions of the world. Players have a wide range of shots at their disposal, including top spins lobs, drop shots or slice shots.

These shots are easily executed through touch gestures. Still, players will need to adjust their shots according to the stadium they compete on. Clay, grass, hard or indoor courts can give the ball different trajectories.

As players progress into the game, they will earn lots of cash, which will come in handy when they will need to buy their way into new, more challenging tournaments. A multiplayer mode is available as well, but requires players to connect over Bluetooth connectivity.

“Virtua Tennis Challenge” is now available for download for $4.99 via Google Play Store. Currently, the game is only compatible with Xperia phones.

Virtua Tennis Challenge is a well-crafted adaptation of the sport on a touchscreen. We are pleased to present a variety of customization options for characters and play style for virtually endless replayability,”  said Haruki Satomi, senior vice president of Digital Business at SEGA.
