1 Million per year

Following a year of important milestones (four million customers in under four years) and innovative service launches such as SugarMama and Penny Texting, Virgin Mobile USA rings in 2007 by announcing it is now serving 4.6 million customers.

"Since the beginning, Virgin Mobile has broken new ground providing quality wireless services without long-term contracts, and this new milestone is no exception," said CEO Dan Schulman. "We provide a genuine alternative that puts customers in control, and more and more people are recognizing the value of our service and brand."

In 2006, J.D. Power & Associates named Virgin Mobile USA America's top prepaid wireless carrier for Customer Satisfaction Excellence, and it was named Readers Choice for Service by PC Magazine. Virgin Mobile enjoys 91% customer satisfaction, with 67% of customers saying they have recommended the service to friends and family.

It seems that in 2006, Virgin Mobile customers also sent or received 1.5 billion text messages - the equivalent of every customer on average sending or receiving 30 text messages per month. Maintaining its disproportionate share of the ringtone market, Virgin Mobile saw its customers download well over 4.8 million ringtones in 2006, as well as more than 2.5 million games and graphics.

The company also launched its own pro-social initiative this year called The RE*Generation, partnering with StandUp For Kids and YouthNoise in building awareness of the plight of millions of homeless and at-risk teens in the U.S. Last month, Virgin Mobile introduced TXT2CLOTHE, a program that allows cell phone users on any carrier to text the word "karma" to #68405 to have Virgin Mobile donate an item of needed clothing to a homeless teen.

Virgin Mobile donates 5% of its profits from downloadable content to The RE*Generation, and provides postage-paid return envelopes in every new package for customers to recycle their old phones.
