Canadian wireless carrier Virgin Mobile has added a new Android-based mobile phone to its offering, namely the HTC Wildfire S, an affordable device that sports a price tag of $249.99 contract free. The mobile phone carrier added the new handset to its offering with a series of monthly options included into the mix as well, and those interested in a contract will be able to purchase it for $29.99 with a three-year agreement.

Running under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and also sports the new HTC Sense 3.0 user interface on top of it.

The handset was unveiled to the world during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona as the successor of last year's Wildfire smartphone.

Moreover, it was launched with features similar to those inside HTC's Desire S smartphone, though with downgraded specifications and, of course, with a lower price tag.

The Wildfire S arrives on shelves with a 600MHz application processor inside, complemented by 512 MB of ROM and 512 MB of RAM.

Moreover, the mobile phone comes with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

On the front, the new device sports a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, paired with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with LED flash, auto focus, and video recording capabilities.

The specifications list of the new device also includes Wifi b/g/n connectivity, Bluetooth 3.0, built-in GPS receiver, and Headset Jack (3.5mm), as well as Mobile Hotspot capabilities.

HTC also packed Wildfire S with Media Player, Calendar, Calculator, Alarm, IM, text and email messaging, support for Adobe Flash 10.1, and a wide range of other features as well.

Not to mention that the new mobile phone also comes with support for applications that can be downloaded via the Android Market, as well as for a series of Google Mobile Services.
