Virgin Media UK carrier has leaked on its Twitter account news about a future Android 2.2 Froyo update for two its devices, HTC Desire and HTC Wildfire

The confirmation of the update sounds exactly like this: “HTC Desire and HTC Wildfire - great news, we're expecting to release OTA updates to 2.2 (Froyo) early Sep :)”

It seems rather late for Virgin Media subscribers that are using one of the two HTC devices, Desire or Wildfire, to receive the long-awaited upgrade only in September.

Further, many of the carrier's customers have probably rooted their HTC Desire / Wildfire and updated it to HTC 2.2 Stock Froyo.

Moreover, the announcement might not be that impressive for most of Virgin Media subscribers, as many of them lost their hope a while ago, seeing the poor feedback they receive from the carrier after many of their complaints.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see how many of these Virgin-branded HTC Desire and Wildfire owners will receive the OTA update notification on their devices, as lots of them already have rooted smartphones that do not recognize the new update.

Besides, we already knew that HTC Wildfire will receive the Android 2.2 Froyo upgrade before October, since July, when the carrier confirmed HTC's comments on the subject.

So, if it's not October, nor August, it must be September. Perhaps it's the fear of losing more subscribers that has driven Virgin Media to post the announcement on its Twitter account, or it's simply a marketing business.

All in all, Virgin Media clients that still have their HTC Desire or Wildfire un-rooted should just sit tight and wait for the update, which should be pushed in early September.

There's no telling what extra-features you might get for waiting that long to get Android 2.2, but I doubt the UK-based carrier will offer any of those.
