Sebastian Bourdais drops crystal trophy on his big day, won’t let that bring him down

The third best thing about winning something (after a boost in reputation / popularity and the prize money) is getting to take the trophy home to have it oh so proudly displayed on the mantelpiece. For race car driver Sebastian Bourdais that’s no longer possible.

Bourdais came in second at an IndyCar race in Toronto, over the weekend, but he won’t be able to show off the fancy, crystal trophy he got for being runner-up, because he broke it.

Check out the video above to see how that happened.

Clearly Bourdais was thinking that the cup would be somehow fixed to the wooden base, but whoever designed it didn’t believe that was such a good idea, so they didn’t glue it on.

Particularly funny is Bourdais’ expression when he realizes what he’s done, but literally nothing tops that last shot, with the trophies all lined up – and the remains of Bourdais’ sitting prettily next to the other, unbroken cups.

Sometimes, you really can’t win them all.
