Director Daniel Hubbard spoofs space movie, sets it inside an IKEA store

Alfonso Cuaron had to wait years before he could make his passion project “Gravity” because he didn’t have the technology necessary for it, but all it took director Daniel Hubbard was an IKEA store and some inspiration to recreate the feel from the first trailer for the movie.

As the video above confirms, Hubbard also needed two actors to stand in for Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in the movie, and lots of humor to make one of the best done spoofs of the film possible.

The idea behind the “IKEA” trailer is that, just like in space, where life is impossible, the same happens inside an IKEA store because of its vast surface, the noise, the bad cellular reception, the amount of things gathered in one place, and the overall sense of confusion that seems to predominate.

So, when the woman gets lost, the viewer is made to understand that all is really lost because there’s no way she can find her way back to her partner, no matter how hard they try.

The trailer might be silly, but it’s actually on point in replicating the feel of one of the first trailers for “Gravity,” including the unavoidable sense of doom and desperation. Check it out.
