The game will appear on the silver screen

Hollywood's movie-making industry is certainly riding a high ascending trend in terms of ideas on the back of the gaming industry as it has borrowed a lot of ideas and properties from video game developers and publishers in recent years in order to turn them into blockbusters.

Even though so far the track record isn't a very encouraging one, at least in terms of quality, the big movie companies are determined to keep on creating new flicks based on game titles. Now, courtesy of Variety magazine, we see that Paramount Pictures will in fact make a movie based on the recent Wheelman video game, which featured reputed actor Vin Diesel.

While the initial Wheelman project included a movie adaptation, the financial troubles of the developer, Midway, made it unfeasible, as the company focused on getting the game out the door, but encountered severe problems when it was forced to go bankrupt.

Luckily though, Ubisoft was there to help and so it was the one that published the game in a lot of countries instead of Midway. The title enjoyed a fair amount of success, but it now seems that it was enough for the movie studio to get Vin Diesel back behind the steering wheel of a fast car, right after completing the fourth installment in the Fast and the Furious franchise.

The project will be directed by John Singleton and Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce the movie. The initial script was handled by Rich Wilkes and the final touches on it were brought by Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell. Singleton isn't at his first racing movie as he also directed 2 Fast 2 Furious, a movie in which Vin Diesel didn't star.

All in all, this isn't the most shocking news as Wheelman already had the blockbuster summer movie feel to it. Either way, let's hope that the Hollywood team won't manage to destroy yet another property like it did with many others in the past.
