YouTube is to online video what Google is to search, not surprisingly, perhaps, since the video site is owned by Google. As such, it's not lacking in competition, despite its very solid position. One such competitor is Vimeo, which, although is aiming at a slightly different audience, is targeting some of the same content creators. Vimeo has just gotten a new weapon in its arsenal, an Advanced Statistics tool to rival and, in some cases, outdo YouTube's.

"Stats is a project that has been in the works for a long time here at Vimeo – we knew how important this was to you and we wanted to make sure we got it just right! The new statistics backend has been collecting data for many months now (at a current rate of 175M+ data points a day and growing!) and the end result is a beautiful, intuitive set of analytics like nobody has ever seen," Vimeo's Kevin Sheurs writes.

The tool is extremely detailed and every stat about any video is available to satisfy even the most picky of users. For every video you ever uploaded, you can select a period of time and see all the meaningful stats about it. There are playback stats like how may times it has been viewed, how many times the page was just loaded and even how many times a viewer reached the end of the video.

These can be further broken down by where the video was viewed, on the site or embedded elsewhere, and even in which quality version, SD versus HD. There are also plenty of stats about the viewers themselves, like their countries and where they are coming from (referring sites). You can watch the video below for a more thorough run-down of the features.

The tool is only available for paying subscribers, aka Vimeo Plus members, another attempt at making the premium account seem more attractive for serious uploaders. Vimeo regularly releases new features for Plus members first and sometimes those features remain exclusive to its paying customers. If you're one of the commoners, don't fret, you can still check out the tool in the online demo set up by Vimeo.
