Enabling them to watch their videos on the go

Vimeo has just rolled out the broader mobile support it first announced last week. The site is making a couple of big moves one with the wider availability of 1080p videos and the second being better support for most smartphone platforms. Subscribers to Vimeo Plus can now use the mobile version of the site to convert their videos into mobile-friendly formats.

"Plus users who own an iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, or Palm Pre can now go to our mobile site, vimeo.com/m and make mobile versions of their videos. After logging in, click 'My Videos' then the 'Generate Mobile Videos' button! (Please allow some time for your videos to bake in the transcoder ovens.)" Vimeo's Andrea Allen writes.

"For Plus users who don't have a smartphone, no worries! You can make mobile versions of your videos by going to any of your video's setting page and clicking the 'Videos' tab. Then check the 'Generate mobile versions of all my videos' box," she adds.

Enabling mobile video support provides all your new uploads with mobile version along with the regular formats. It also converts all of your past videos for mobile use. Vimeo expects a lot of demand for the feature shortly after the introduction, so videos may take a longer time to get processed, up to a day.

The new mobile support means that smartphone users can take advantage of all the major features of the site on their phones. They'll be able to watch the videos in a native format but also 'like' or comment on them. Until now, only the videos in the "Staff Picks" and HD video showcases categories were available to mobile users.

Now, all paying subscribers to Vimeo Plus will be able to offer their videos in mobile-friendly formats, giving them another perk for their subscriptions. Recently, they got another present from Vimeo, 1080p videos. Just like the mobile versions, Plus users can now upload their videos at the highest resolution in wide use today.
