With SandForce having announced its SF-2000 Series of SSD controllers, it is unsurprising to hear that makers of solid state drives are already developing new units, and Viking Modular Solutions has just announced that it will soon join the SATA 6.0Gbps SSD crowd.

SandForce is already known on the SSD controller market because its chips are what give most high-end SATA 3.0Gbps SSDs their speeds of over 270 MB/s.

The new collection of controllers, the so-called SF-2000 series, take performance one step higher and enable support for SATA 6.0 Gbps and, thus, speeds of up to 500MB/s.

The new chips also take random read/write performance all the way up to 60,000 IOPS.

Viking Modular Solutions will make use of the SF-2500 and SF-2600 controller chips in its upcoming line of SATA 6.0 SSDs.

"SandForce is an important strategic partner for us and we know firsthand that their technology helps us to bring superior functionality to our customers," said Hamid R. Shokrgozar, President and General Manager of Viking Modular Solutions.

"That's why we have wasted no time incorporating its newest class of controllers into our innovative suite of products,” he added.

“We will continue to deliver our portfolio of industry standard 2.5" and 1.8" form-factor SSDs in addition to developing the next generation of powerful SSD solutions for OEMs in the enterprise and industrial space," Shokrgozar went on to saying.

"We have a strategic collaboration with Viking Modular and are always excited to see how they use SandForce technology to answer real needs in today's enterprise and industrial markets," said Michael Raam, President and CEO of SandForce.

"The SF-2500 and SF-2600 boast the strongest endurance, performance, security and reliability features in the market today, and we are confident that Viking Modular will provide the right design expertise and packaging technology to maximize the capabilities of these new processors," Raam added.

Unfortunately, the official announcement did not hold any specific information on the products and their availability or pricing.
