ViewSonic devised its Windows 7 netbook as an economic, low power-using device that, while taking up little space, still delivers good performance, especially display capabilities compared to other such gadgets on the market. The mobile PC VNB102, also dubbed the ViewBook, allows, as the name implies, for good display of documents and photos while using less plastic and energy than other products.

“To meet the needs of our 30 million customers, we are pleased to offer a range of mobile products that take digital experiences on the road,” said Jeff Volpe, vice president and general manager of ViewSonic Americas. “With the addition of the VNB102 ViewBook, we are confident that we have the right solution for our customers, whether it’s an all-in-one PC or PC Mini for at home computing, or an ultra-portable netbook for mobile computing needs.”

The ViewBook is powered by an Intel Atom N270 platform and able to deliver PC functionality for up to six hours on battery power alone. The product makes use of a 10.1-inch WSVGA TFT LCD screen capable of a maximum resolution of 1024x600 and a brightness of 200 cd/m2. Measuring only 253mm x 188mm x 23mm (9.9" x 7.4" x 1.1"), the netbook packs a 160GB hard drive for storage and has 1GB of internal memory. The Intel Atom N270 Single-Core processor is clocked at 1.6GHz, has an FSB of 533MHz and runs on the Intel 945GSE chipset.

The I/O options of the gadget include three USB ports, a VGA output, a RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet LAN port, a three-in-one card reader (capable of reading SD, MMC and MS cards), as well as jacks for microphones and headphones. Audio output is provided by two 1.5-watt speakers. In addition, the netbook is built with 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g wireless LAN for communication.

Set to become available on December 18, the VNB102 ViewBook will be priced at $399. The product package will include the netbook itself, a power cord, a power adapter, the battery, a Driver CD and a Quick Start Guide. In addition, resellers will have the opportunity to benefit from product training and discounts via ViewSonic's FinchClub.
