ViewSonic has recently announced that its first ULV notebook has finally become commercially available. Known as the ViewSonic VNB131 ViewBook Pro, the laptop combines the processing power of a ULV Intel Core 2 Duo processor with a lightweight design, the versatility of a multi-touch keypad and a long battery life. The device is aimed at “mobile warriors needing performance in a light format” and runs the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium operating system.

The 13.3-inch machine comes with a 1280x800 screen and a modern, sleek casing made of aluminum alloy. This chassis is only one inch thick, but is able to house the 1.3 GHz ULV SU7300 Intel Core 2 Duo processor, as well as suitable memory and storage capabilities.

More specifically, the VNB131 packs a hard drive of 320GB, along with 2GB of internal memory and integrated graphics. The product also features a removable DVD RW Super multi ODD, the aforementioned multi-touch keypad, two USB ports, 10/100 Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n wireless, a 7-in-1 card reader and two video outputs, namely VGA and HDMI connectors.

The DVD ODD is made removable so that it may be replaced by an extra three-cell battery. The mobile PC normally runs on a six-cell battery that enables up to eight hours of operation. By removing the DVD ODD and placing, instead, the spare three-cell, the device becomes capable of running for up to 12 hours.

“Our mobile and desktop PC products range in size and functionality in order to meet every individuals’ computing needs,” Sally Wang, ViewSonic’s senior director of product marketing, said. “With our ULV VNB131 ViewBook Pro, mobile warriors get all the power they need, packaged to go in a lean, green design.”

The ViewSonic ViewBook Pro VNB131 is already available and carries an MSRP (manufacturer suggested retail price) of $949. The company also intends to release additional ULV notebooks and netbooks starting with the second quarter.
