The Mac Developer Network (MDN) has added a new tutorial to its video training series. The 26-minute video tutorial, entitled “Developing and Using Frameworks,” walks viewers through the process of creating reusable framework projects in Xcode. The tutorial also demonstrates how to use them, either in projects or as shared frameworks.

“Mac OS X makes extensive use of frameworks to distribute shared code and resources, such as the interfaces to the system itself,” the Mac Developer Network says. “You can create frameworks of your own to provide shared code and resources to one or more of your applications. You can also create frameworks containing class libraries or add-on modules with the intention of distributing them to other developers. The information in this course will get you started as it walks you through the process of creating reusable framework projects in Xcode [...] Most importantly, you will get the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing you have supported the Mac Developer Network.”

The tutorial is aimed at anyone who understands Objective-C and Xcode, or at those who need to learn how to develop and use frameworks, MDN adds. The course is presented by Uli Kusterer (Martin Ulrich Kusterer), a 27-year-old programmer with Elgato (Munich). Uli is close to getting his Bachelor's degree in "Software and Internet Technology" at the University of Mannheim, Germany.

For $4.99, MDN members get a 26-minute HD (1280 x 720) video tutorial that guides them through the process of creating and using reusable framework projects in Xcode. They also receive the tutorial in 480x272 pixels for use on an iPhone or iPod Touch (31MB). Non-members get the same thing, but they'll have to pay an extra 5 bucks for the purchase. The video is formatted as a DRM-free .mp4 file (68MB).
