Mobile-phone carrier Verizon Wireless is set to deliver to the market on November 6 its first handset running under Google's Android operating system, the Motorola DROID, and it has just announced that it plans to open its stores earlier that day. According to the operator, this move is aimed at offering its customers the possibility to purchase the DROID during the first day of sales, and its stores will open either at 7 a.m. or at 8 a.m.

Verizon Wireless has also announced that the Mall stores won't open earlier, and that users should check with their local stores to learn the exact opening hour. In addition, the carrier has also noted that, besides purchasing the Motorola DROID, the first handset in the world to sport the Android 2.0 OS, users will also have the opportunity to learn about its features on November 6, as well as afterwards.

The carrier plans on hosting demonstrations of the mobile phone in various locations around the country, so as to show how users can benefit the most from their DROID. “Also on Friday, Verizon Wireless will create a first-of-its-kind interactive experience in New York City called, ‘DROID Does Times Square.’ This experience will let callers control two of Times Square’s largest digital billboards – the NASDAQ and Reuters signs – using only voice commands,” the carrier has added.

The Motorola DROID with Android will come to Verizon with a great deal of appealing specs and features, including a large screen, high-speed web browsing, access to a great deal of applications through the Android Market, and others more. The phone will be available from Verizon for $199.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate, which will be received in the form of a debit card.
