It looks like US-based carrier Verizon Wireless plans to announce a new lineup of DROID devices in late July. Although the operator did not confirm the name of the handsets that will be officially released this month, it does hint to its “most popular family of devices.”

The Verge reports that it has just been invited to a Verizon press event on July 23, which is set to take place in NYC. The invitation confirms that the carrier plans to “unveil the next generation of one most popular family of devices.”

Although the Big Red does not mention anything about Motorola, there’s a high chance the carrier will announce a new DROID lineup.

Last week, Motorola’s upcoming DROID devices leaked via evleaks, along with some of their specs. For the time being, Motorola is expected to launch three new Android smartphones: DROID Mini, DROID Ultra and DROID Maxx.

All three feature capacitive buttons and run an unknown version of Android operating system. According to the latest rumors, Motorola DROID Ultra will be powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.

In addition, the DROID ULTRA will boast a large 4.7-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating. It will also come with 16GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion.

Motorola DROID ULTRA MAXX will be based on the same hardware configuration as the DROID ULTRA, but it will come packed with a much better battery.

Last but not least, Motorola DROID Mini is said to be the spiritual success of the RAZR I and RAZR M smartphones, though additional details on its specs sheet are unavailable at this point.

With less than a week until the official unveiling of the new Motorola DROID lineup, we expect more details on the press event to leak in the next few days, so stay tuned.
