South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics is reportedly gearing up for the release of its largest Android smartphone on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless in the United States, and the handset has just emerged in a series of new images.

Dubbed LG Optimus Vu, the smartphone was made official earlier this year with a 5-inch touchscreen display and with a 4:3 aspect ratio.

The new set of images with the mobile phone, available courtesy of phoneArena, confirm that Verizon might be indeed getting ready to make it available on its network very soon.

No official confirmation on the handset’s arrival at Big Red has emerged so far, but it should not be too long before the wireless carrier makes a formal announcement on this.

Previously leaked images with the mobile phone showed it running under Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which suggested that it might indeed sport this platform release when made available.

Optimus Vu was launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board, yet it appears that LG might have finally managed to compile builds based on the newer platform for it.

In addition to the large touchscreen display, the new mobile phone will also arrive on shelves with a Snapdragon S3 application processor packed inside, a dual-core that would also offer support for LTE connectivity, as well as with 1GB of RAM.

Moreover, it should include 32GB of internal memory, along with an 8-megapixel photo snapper, and with support for HD video recording. A front camera for making video calls should also be included in the package.

The smartphone should offer a great viewing experience to all users, regardless of the content. Its screen boasts a 768 x 1024 pixel resolution.

LG launched the Optimus Vu as the direct competitor for Samsung’s Galaxy Note, but it did not manage to attract as many users as expected to its device. If packed with LTE and Ice Cream Sandwich, the handset could prove a great option for Verizon’s users.
