The Verizon XV6900, also known as the popular HTC Touch, has recently received an update to Windows Mobile 6.1, complemented by a faster version of EV-DO. The phone has been in the operator's offering for quite a while now, yet this is the first time it gets the latest version of Microsoft's operating system for smartphones.

As many of you might already know, the device has seen a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM leaked for it in the past, but now we get an official OS platform for the handset. The new ROM delivers a range of enhancements such as an improved version of Internet Explorer Mobile and threaded SMS messages.

One improvement meant to make users rejoice is an enhancement in the smartphone's wireless networking capabilities. To be more specific, the Verizon XV6900 goes from the standard version of EV-DO to EV-Do Rev. A., which means that there will be faster data transfers.

Another improvement brought along by the bump to Windows Mobile 6.1 is an updated MMS client to be compatible with the OS, while new features include added Microsoft Remote Desktop Application, added capability to use VzNavigator application, as well as added capability to read micro SD cards of up to 16GB memory.

The XV6900 version of the popular HTC Touch comes with Bluetooth connectivity, although WiFi is not present, and it also includes a 128 MB RAM/256 MB ROM, a 2.0-megapixel camera, and a microSDHC card slot. The smartphone sports HTC's TouchFLO customized launcher, which allows consumers to use their fingers instead of a stylus.

The Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system released for Verizon XV6900 is meant to extend the functionality of the phone, and those who already went for the previously leaked ROM can now download the official one from here.
