Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is expected to bring to the market in the US in the not too far future a successor for its Samsung Fascinate handset, it flavor of Galaxy S, the highly popular Android-based smartphone launched last year.

The new Android phone would be a specific version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, which landed on shelves in late April with a dual-core application processor, a large touchscreen display, and the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS on board.

The wireless carrier almost confirmed plans to make the said device available for purchase, but retracted the statement soon after, saying that it was only a miscommunication.

A recent article on Computerworld unveiled the company's plans for launching the Galaxy S II as soon as next month, though specific info on the matter were not made available.

However, a Verizon spokesperson stepped up soon after the article went online, and said that the carrier was actually talking about the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet, which is indeed set to hit shelves next month, with LTE connectivity on board.

Chances are that, although the statement was retracted, the Galaxy S II will indeed arrive on shelves at Big Red as soon as next month.

The mobile phone was already rumored to be on its way to the carrier under the name of Function, while expected to arrive at AT&T and Sprint as well, called Attain and Within, respectively.

Nothing was officially confirmed on the release of either of these devices, but some of the previous rumors suggested that Sprint would plan on making the Within available no later than next month.

Verizon might have its own flavor of Samsung Galaxy S II available for acquisition next month as well, so as not to remain behind the rival CDMA carrier.

Officially, Verizon has no plan to release the Galaxy S II next month, but the slip might be interpreted as a possible confirmation of the fact, that's for sure.
