After several delays, Verizon is finally deploying the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update to DROID Pro users.

Although the update leaked several months ago, Verizon postponed it for unknown reasons. DROID Pro did receive a maintenance update back in April, but that was about all.

Fortunately, Verizon has just published the update's full changelog, which indicates that the upgrade will be rolled out soon.

The new software update 4.6.8.XT610.Verizon.en.US brings many improvements and new features for the DROID Pro.

Aside Gingerbread, the update provides users with new Calendar options, including the possibility to display even times in different time zone while traveling, as well as the option to dismiss individual reminders.

Easy conference dialing is another improvement added, along with the possibility to update Calendar appointments with Exchange ActiveSync without removing them completely.

In addition, Google Books application now comes pre-loaded, while the geo-tagging feature will be available for camera apps.

Other highlights of the latest major update are detailed below:

- Improved contact syncing from multiple email accounts; - Improved battery life while using Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth; - Correct contact name is displayed when receiving SMS messages; - Forward SMS message conversations correctly; - Mobile Hotspot status is displayed accurately; - Clock widget updates time correctly; - GPS apps and programs no longer cause unnecessary device resets; - V CAST Media Manager now comes preloaded.

According to Verizon, the size of the software upgrade is 98 MB, and will take approximately 20 to 45 minutes to download it, depending on the network conditions.

DROID Pro owners who have yet to be notified that a system update is available for download can check for the software update manually by going to Settings / About phone / System updates / Download.

The full changelog of the software upgrade can be found on Verizon's support website.
