Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless and handset vendor Motorola have just announced the release of a software update for the Motorola DROID 2 Global, which is set to offer a nice range of enhancements to those who purchased the device.

Verizon is already known for its commitment to keep the DROID handsets up to date at all times and, while the new software solution does not bring into the mix a new operating system version, it does include improvements for the handset.

“Enjoy improved performance with these OS enhancements. Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update for your Droid 2 Global by Motorola (Version.2.4.330.A956.Verizon.en.US). The update for the Droid 2 Global includes numerous enhancements and improvements,” the wireless carrier notes.

DROID 2 Global is already one of the nicest Android-based devices at Verizon, and the release of this software update would offer a better experience to all of the handset's owners.

According to Verizon, the release notes for this device would include the following:

Improvements:

Device now prepears 011 to Country Code to send SMS messages. Device no longer indicates “No Service” after powering up. Device no longer resets when changing from Global Mode to GSM/UMTS communication. Device now refreshes the user interface display when switching from GSM/UMTS to Global Mode. Eliminated the blank screen when dialing the call forwarding string *71.

Other improvements:

As stated above, this software release does not come with an OS upgrade, though it might not be too long before the handset tastes one of these as well.

Currently running under Android 2.2 Froyo OS version, the DROID 2 Global is expected to receive an upgrade to Android 2.3 Gingerbread within a matter of months. If not sooner.
