US wireless carrier Verizon Wireless has officially announced its plans to launch the highly anticipated V CAST mobile TV service on the 1st of March.

Considering that it's just a couple of days away, US customers will soon be able to enjoy it on their own mobile phones. But when it comes to details, things are a little bit vaguer than expected.

The carrier hasn't offered any other information except for the launch date and the fact that it will be available only 'in select markets'. Maps don't currently show coverage of major markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Diego or Las Vegas.

According to Verizon's previous statement, its mobile TV service was to have an "initial launch in many major U.S. markets" by the end of the first quarter of the year.

Soon enough, we'll all get to find out exactly just what Verizon means by many major markets. Verizon is using Qualcomm's MediaFLo mobile TV network for the service and has recently announced the compatible mobile phones it will be offering its customers, the SCH-u620 by Samsung and VX9400 by LG.

While the service has been announced on the website, the handsets were not yet presented. V CAST Mobile TV customers will be able to watch shows from several TV programs including CBS, Comedy Central, Fox, MTV, NBC News, NBC Entertainment and Nickelodeon.

There's still no information on the pricing of the service, but as mentioned before, the launch is just a few days away so most details should become available very soon and customers will get answers for all their questions regarding this service.
