Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has unveiled at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) a new device to fit its new 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network, namely the Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot.

According to the wireless services provider, the new device comes with support for both the new 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) network the company fired up in early December 2010, as well as for the older 3G network.

Through this dual-mode Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot, Verizon customers can enjoy access to the carrier's network on Wi-Fi-enabled devices that do not include 3G/4G capabilities.

The Hotspot works as a mobile access point that supports a number of up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices at the same time, enabling them to connect to one of the two wireless broadband networks the company operates.

Big Red's users would enjoy speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps on the downlink, or of 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink within the Verizon 4G Mobile Broadband coverage areas if they use this device, the wireless carrier notes.

“By harnessing the power and speed of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, our customers have a trusted source of connectivity with the Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot,” said Marni Walden, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless.

“We’re expanding our portfolio of 4G LTE-capable devices to provide power and portability to our customers so that they’ll stay connected on the go.”

For those out of the loop, we should note that Verizon fired up its new 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network in December last year, offering access to enhanced speeds to users in a number of 38 markets in the United States.

The new network offers speeds that are up to 10 times faster than those on Verizon Wireless’ 3G network.

“Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network currently reaches one-third of all Americans, with plans to expand the network to the company’s entire 3G coverage area over the next three years,” the wireless carrier announced.

No info on the exact launch date or on the price tag of the new Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot was unveiled for the time being.
