14 DAY TRIAL // Following the official announcement regarding the launch of NVIDIA's much-anticipated Tegra 2 processor, some of the company's partners have started to announce their designs using the new chip. Such is the case with network carrier Verizon Wireless, which has been demonstrating its new Tegra-powered Ultra tablet, a device designed to enable a full 1080p HD Internet experience on touchscreen tablets.
“Verizon Wireless’ planned LTE network will deliver what consumers demand - bandwidth for a full HD web experience. This coupled with our Tegra processor will deliver amazing streaming content, all on the go,” said Michael Rayfield, general manager of Mobile business at NVIDIA.
Designed by Innovative Converged Devices (ICD), the new tablet from Verizon is one of the first devices to adopt NVIDIA's latest Tegra chip. The features and performance of this processor enable the tablet to provide consumers with a high-end Internet experience, taking advantage of the Motorola 4G modem, for high-speed LTE connectivity. While not in its final stage of development, the tablet is expected to sport a 7-inch display and will run on Google's appreciated Android operating system.
While NVIDIA claims that its new chip can enable a noticeable performance level, with a minimum toll on the battery life, the ICD Tablet is expected to provide users with about 4 hours of use, on a single charge.
“We know consumers want full internet access and we are pleased to be working with NVIDIA in our LTE Innovation Center on a solution that can process full HD content with the battery life of a smartphone,” said Brian Higgins, executive director, LTE Ecosystem Development at Verizon Wireless.
Unfortunately, there's no word on the final release date or the pricing of the NVIDIA Tegra-based ICD Ultra tablet. This leaves us to conclude that there might be some changes, before the tablet is made available on the market.
