While media slates have more or less just taken off, rugged tablet PCs can be said to have been around for longer, and it seems that one of them, made by DLI, has now been granted Verizon 3G certification.

The DLI 8400 rugged tablet is a 7-inch product with an Intel Atom Industrial Version Z530 1.60 GHz central processing unit at its heart.

It boasts 2 GB of DDR2 memory and a 1.8-inch shock-mounted solid state drive (SSD) whose capacity can range between 8 GB and 64 GB.

The product also boasts a backlit QWERTY keyboard or Numeric Keyboard, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, WWAN, WPAN and Bluetooth Class 2 radio.

Mostly, the rugged tablet is used in such applications as police, fleet management, construction, field service, fire and EMS, etc.

Now, the DLI 8400 has received Verizon 3G certification, which means that users will be able to communicate and collaborate through the whole mobile enterprise.

The actual mobile broadband connectivity is delivered by a Sierra Wireless MC5727 radio.

“The DLI 8400 is an ideal device for mobile enterprise and field service users who demand increased speed, flexibility and reliability as part of their work,” said Aparna Khurjekar, executive director of Business Solutions at Verizon Wireless.

“As businesses looks to drive the productivity of their field workforce, they’ve come to depend on the reliability and speed of Verizon’s Wireless 3G mobile network,” Khurjekar added.

“These customers will also appreciate the reliability and performance of the DLI 8400 rugged tablet computer,” the executive director wen on to saying.

“More and more customers are gravitating toward the DLI 8400 because of its durability, light weight and extensive feature set”, says DLI president, Bryan Wesolek.

“With the DLI 8400 in the hands (and vehicles) of their mobile workforce, our customers are now able to accomplish more than they ever dreamed possible while out in the field,” he explained.
