Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has just started to roll-out a software update for its HTC ThunderBolt smartphone, delivering a series of fixes and enhancements to those who already purchased the handset.

The software update is the same firmware that Verizon started to deliver to its users about two weeks ago, but which was halted only a few days after the initial roll-out.

At that time, the carrier announced the new software as being set to bring a series of enhancements for the handset's 3G connectivity, and it seems that nothing was changed in the meantime.

The firmware would bring a better connectivity experience to all users, but it was meant to fix only issues with the 3G capabilities of the device, while other aspects of the phone would remain untouched.

However, a range of other enhancements were also included into the mix, at least this is what the changelog shows.

The same as before, the release notes would include:

Web Browsing and Data Access - Enhanced data connectivity when accessing the Verizon 3G network.

Email and Messaging

- SMS and MMS messages are stored properly in the Messaging Application (Inbox, Sent, etc.).

Additional Device Features

- Timing for device activation has been improved. - “Backup Assistant” is correctly displayed in the Application menu. - Stability improvements for data centric applications such as Facebook, KAYAK, Yahoo! Mail, My Verizon and more. - Accurate location is displayed when accessing the Weather Widget. - Quickly load GPS updates for Google Maps and VZ Navigator.

The software update is being delivered over-the-air, and users would be notified on its availability for their specific devices.

What remains to be seen is how long Verizon would need to deliver the new firmware to all of its ThunderBolt users out there. Hopefully, it would all be over in a few weeks.
