A wide range of enhancements and fixes will be delivered to users

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is gearing up for the release of a new software update for its Motorola DROID 3 devices, meant to bring a wide range of enhancements to users.

Although no specific info on when the update will be delivered has been provided so far, Big Red has posted details on what it will include on its website.

Set to hit devices as version 5.7.906.XT862, the new software update will improve DROID3’s overall performance, while also fixing various issues that have been previously discovered to affect it.

According to the release notes published over at Verizon, the new update will arrive with a patch from Google, destined to improve the phone’s security level.

Additionally, it will fix an issue with the mobile phone turning on without the user interacting with it, and will also deliver stability improvements, to help avoid device power cycles.

The latest software update for DROID 3 will enable the Wireless Alerting System, and will offer users the chance to use a wired headset without the interruption of a high pitched tone. Moreover, the plus code dialing has been enhanced.

The release notes also show:

- Avoid device interruption when accessing an application prior to the storage being fully mounted on the device. - When connected to a Bluetooth headset or HDMI cable, the device will no longer lock up and power cycle. - Improvements to the camera’s auto focus will reduce the shutter response time and enhance the quality of captured imagery. - Place a call to the appropriate recipient using the contact widget. - When moving applications to the SD card, shortcuts to these Apps will remain. - After updating the contact database from the Messaging App, the Messaging UI will display the latest contact information. - Purchased ringtones are now able to be downloaded, saved and used where appropriate. - Contact pictures display properly in Google Voice. - Resolved excessive data usage and continuous downloading for VZ Navigator 3D City downloads.

Following the update, VZ Navigator 3D City will be preloaded, and users will be able to successfully post and play videos on Facebook. The new software will also offer the capability to hear playback media while using a Bluetooth headset.

The release notes for software version 5.7.906.XT862 can be found on Verizon’s support site, where details on what users will need to do to install it are also available. The new update weighs 230MB.
