Verizon Wireless and Motorola plan to roll out an important software update for the DROID BIONIC Android-powered smartphone. The carrier usually publishes the updates’ change logs a few days before actually deploying it with the “Coming Soon” tag.

This time Verizon published the update’s change log without putting the “Coming Soon” tag on it, which might indicate the fact that it’s already rolling out.

Just by looking at the number of changes that have been included in this release one may think that the DROID BIONIC has a lot of software issues. Motorola’s DROID BIONIC is a decent smartphone with fewer software bugs in comparison with other devices in its range.

However, after the update is applied, it should be another phone with all the new features, enhancements and bug fixes that have been included in this release.

Software update 5.5.893 for Motorola DROID Bionic improves stability of data connection on 3G and 4G and fixes lockup that could randomly happen while browsing during the handoff from Wi-Fi to 4G.

The update also includes a few tweaks, such as the “Data Roaming” notification message that will pop-up once when roaming in CDMA internationally, as well as the option to jump to the most recent message after changing the smartphone’s orientation while in message list view.

Motorola DROID BIONIC boasts an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, dual-LED flash, face detection, image stabilization and full HD (1080p) video recording. With the new update, the camera’s autofocus has been improved to reduce the shutter response time and enhance the quality of the captured pictures.

Several issues have been corrected as well, such as the problem causing shortcuts to applications to disappear if they were moved to the SD card. A similar issue that caused apps to disappear from the App tray when moved to the SD card has been fixed as well.

There are a lot more changes included in the latest software update for the Motorola DROID BIONIC. The entire change log of the update can be found here.
