Verizon added the LG Spectrum to its portfolio more than a year ago. Although the phone was launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box, the mid-range smartphone will be receiving an important update in the following days.

Software version VS920ZV6 bumps Verizon’s LG Spectrum to Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread and brings quite a range of new features, improvements and updates for the includes apps.

The update file is 127MB in size and is likely to be pushed OTA (over the air) within the next few days. Even though Verizon already published the official changelog of the update, there’s no telling exactly when the carrier starts the rollout process.

LG Spectrum owners are recommended to manually check for the update from time to time by going to Menu / Settings / About phone / Software updates / Check for updates.

The following new features and improvements have been included in VS920ZV5 updates:

- EAS password follows security policy, requiring an 8-digit password minimum; - Application launch will not cause force close when the device is scanning for available Wi-Fi networks; - Improved outline for multiple calendar view; - Calendar reminders send notification at accurate time; - Successfully sync Optimum Online accounts using POP3; - Pinch zoom in Camera Preview mode to select zoom level.

Aside from the change above, Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread for LG Spectrum brings several web browsing and email enhancements:

- Sync and Connect email maximum count is 500 regardless of server settings; - Browser launches immediately upon selection; - Added ‘Select Search Engine’ option in browser settings; - Google Search is now set as default search for a better user experience.

Last but not least, lots of applications and services that come pre-loaded have been updated with new features and improvements:

- Google GMS (Google Mobile Services) is upgraded to Gingerbread R9; - Updated Google Play (v3.3.12) with enhanced user experiences; - Updated Gmail (v2.3.5.2) with a series of security fixes; - Talk2 (v1.3) includes updated video chat capabilities; - Updated YouTube (v2.3.4) includes enhanced editing functionalities; - Visual Voice Mail connection has been updated for a better user experience when syncing email; - Updated Apps: NFL v4.0, VZ Navigator (v7.5.1.54), Amazon Kindle (v3.3.2.3), SmartShare (R2.0), Verizon Video (v6.1.34), My Verizon (v10.0.7) and V CAST Apps (v3.03.41).

It is also worth mentioning that LG already confirmed the Spectrum as being upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, though the South Korean company has yet to unveil the exact release date of the major update.
