One thing that most, if not all, currently selling e-readers lack is color support, so Velocity Micro has been developing the Cruz Reader, one that does have color and will apparently start shipping within a day.

The e-reader market began to take off in the second half of 2009, especially after Amazon's Kindle started to sell in droves, even becoming the best-selling product of the month at some point.

This notified the various makers of consumer electronics to the fact that the general populace still likes to read, leading to the emergence of digitized books and accompanying devices.

For a while, the kindle, Sony's device and the Nook from Barnes and Noble were, more or less, the only three presences on this market.

Over the past few months, however, other models have emerged, and Velocity Micro went a step further and used a color screen instead of a greyscale E Ink display.

The 7-inch full-color display has a native resolution of 800 x 600 pixels and utilizes resistive touchscreen technology.

The device also comes with 2 GB of internal storage, as well as 256 MB of RAM and USB connectivity.

What's more, for wireless communications, web connectivity and book downloading, Velocity Micro threw in 802.11 b/g WiFi and access to the Borders E-book library.

Finally, the e-reader is loaded with the Android 2.0 operating system and can be seen in detail on the official product page that its maker has set up on its website.

Pre-orders have been possible for a while, but actual shipments should begin tomorrow, on September 15. The price currently accompanying the unit is $200.

“At just under one pound, the .6” thick Cruz Reader goes everywhere you do and fits perfectly in one hand,” states the company. “Get ready to attract attention with the sleek, slim, and stylish Cruz Reader.”
