14 DAY TRIAL // FuturLab confirms that it's partnered with the newly revived publishing label Sierra in order to bring forth Velocity 2X onto new platforms like PC, Mac, Linux, or Xbox One, and that this collaboration will cover other games in the future.
FuturLab made a name for itself with the pretty impressive Velocity title that arrived first on the PS3, and then rolled out onto other platforms like the PC. The studio brought forth a sequel last year with Velocity 2X, which arrived onto the PS4 and PS Vita platforms.
Velocity 2X is coming to PC, Mac, Linux, and Xbox One
Now, the independent developer confirms on its website that it's made a new partnership with Sierra, the recently revived publishing label of Activision, in order to bring Velocity 2X onto new platforms in the form of the PC, Mac, Linux, and Xbox One.
According to FuturLab, the porting process is being handled by its own team while Sierra is in charge of the publishing process. The studio emphasizes that self-publishing a game, even an indie one, takes a lot of time and this effort meant that, in the end, Velocity 2X had to suffer in terms of content in order to allocate time to the marketing efforts, for example.
"Self-publishing is hard. I spent more time doing PR and marketing on Velocity 2X than I spent designing levels. I became a bottleneck for the whole project. That was far from ideal. So, given that marketing is vital to success, who could be better suited to hold aloft our creations than Sierra? The best bit is that we retain control of our IP. Oh yes that is cool, as we’re now free to focus on what really matters: that silky gameplay," FuturLab boss James Marsden says.
What's more, the studio also mentions that its new partnership with Sierra isn't limited just to the arrival of Velocity 2X onto new platforms. More projects should surface in the future thanks to the collaboration between the two companies.
