Gamers will have to decide whom to feed on

Video game developer Dontnod and publisher Focus Home Interactive are ready to offer some more information on the new Vampyr project that they are collaborating on, alongside a new teaser trailer that does not provide us with too many details about the actual game.

The core structure of the experience will be based on the role-playing genre, and the two companies are planning to use Unreal Engine 4 to make the initial vision become a reality.

Vampyr, as the name suggests, will use the classic elements of the vampire mythology, and Dontnod promised that the gameplay would be immersive and would offer a new take on some familiar elements.

The story will take place in early 20th-century Great Britain, during a time when the country is affected by the Spanish Flu and the dead are clogging the streets while the survivors are trying anything they can to stay away from potential infection.

Dontnod states, "those foolish, desperate, or unlucky enough to walk the streets lay prey to Britain’s most elusive predators: the vampires. Emerging from the chaos, a tormented figure awakens. You are Jonathan E. Reid, a high-ranking military surgeon transformed into a vampire upon his return home from the frontline."

Vampyr will allow players to interact with a wide variety of characters, each of them with a unique personality and some interesting backstories.

Feeding will be an important part of the experience

The development team suggests that the biggest choice that gamers will have to make is whom they choose as a target in order to get the blood that allows vampires to stay alive in the long term.

A character who is used for feeding will disappear from the world of Vampyr forever, which means that each run through the game will be entirely unique.

Dontnod adds that the video game will feature dynamic real-time combat, which mixes melee and ranged engagements with the use of special vampiric powers, which are dependent on the actual health of the character.

Gamers will have to deal with other vampires, powerful supernatural creatures, and even some humans who have chosen to hunt the creatures of the night.

Vampyr will also include crafting, and it seems that the launch will take place in 2017 on the PC, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
