The hardware you need to run this game

Left 4 Dead is a very important game for Valve, the developer behind great titles like Half Life or Portal, which has really high hopes for this survival horror shooter. It said on many occasions that all its creative resources had gone to this project and that it was the number one priority at the moment. Being slated for a mid November release date, people started wondering what the PC system specs would be for this title, which, besides the PC, will also come to the Xbox 360, while a highly speculated PlayStation 3 version is in the works at Electronic Arts. Well, wonder no more, because Valve just released these specifications, so here's the hardware you need for an enjoyable horror experience.

- OS: Windows Vista, XP or 2000

- CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)

- RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista

DISC DRIVE: DVD-ROM Drive

- HARD DRIVE: At least 7.5 GB of free space

VIDEO: Direct X 9 compatible video card (Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for pixel shader 2.0)

- SOUND: Direct X9.0c compatible sound card

These aren't very high, but still, some gamers who really don't have the spending power to upgrade their PCs are definitely going to be a bit sad. However, unless you turn to console gaming, you have no other choice than to upgrade your rig.

For those of you who don't know, Left 4 Dead pits 4 survivors of a zombie holocaust against hordes upon hordes of the undead, as they go through buildings and open spaces in a quest to reach a safe zone from where they can be picked up. The game relies heavily on team play and cooperation, as none of the characters can stand against the zombies alone. The novelty in Valve's approach to the theme is that some gamers will get to play the zombies, or more accurately some of the more developed zombies, pitting their wits and the abilities different monster types have against the human survivors.
