Two more missions, one difficulty level

SEGA has unveiled no less than three pieces of downloadable content for its tactical role playing game Valkyria Chronicles. For the time being, the company has not said how much it plans to charge for each new piece of content. The PlayStation 3 game is best known for the way it looks, with most players comparing it to a painting in motion thanks to the CANVAS system.

It seems that the first to be launched will be the Hard EX Mode, which is set to add a new challenge level for all those players who have come to feel that Valkyria Chronicles is too easy to get through.

The new difficulty level will throw tougher challenges at players while offering them a chance to brag about their exploits. Players will then get “Edy's Mission,” which will be called “Enter the Edy Detachment.” It will feature the named character, separated from the rest of Squad 7 and tasked with the role of defending a small city.

The final piece of DLC will be “Selveria's Mission,” also known as “Behind Her Blue Flame,” which allows the player to experience the conflict depicted in Valkyria Chronicles from the side of the Empire, by featuring as the main character an engineer named Johann.

SEGA has not offered a set of dates for the release of the three packs of DLC, but we're likely to see them coming one per month once the company settles on a beginning date. Valkyria Chronicles was well received by both critics, who had kind words for the art style and for the interesting system used to power the battles, and by players, who immediately called it a “cult hit.” Unfortunately, sales were not that great and SEGA probably sees downloadable content as one way to increase them and to raise the profile of the game.
