Valerie Harper has been diagnosed with terminal cancer but she’s determined to put up a huge fight. She’s already outlived doctors’ 3-month prediction and she’s now doing Dancing With the Stars, season 17.

Above is her Foxtrot on the season premiere the other night. Her partner is Tristan MacManus and he’s confident they have what it takes to make it in the final.

Even though they scored only 21 out of a possible 30 for the first dance, Valerie’s story moved everyone to tears and even earned her a much-deserved standing ovation.

Bruno Tonioli compared her to “a national treasure,” Len Goodman tried to wipe away a tear when he thought no one was watching, and Carrie Ann Inaba could hardly speak when it came to judging the routine.

They all agreed that Valerie has grace and ease on the dancefloor, but needs to work a bit more on her posture.

They also agreed that she’s an amazing human being and that they’re lucky to have her on the show.
