Talk of a “Top Gun” sequel stalled after Tony Scott’s death by suicide in 2012, but not all fans have lost the hope of seeing it brought to the big screen. In fact, Val Kilmer, who starred in the original, still thinks it will be made.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, the actor says he’d totally be game for “Top Gun 2,” if Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer ever got to working on it.

“I think it wouldn't be that difficult to maintain the spirit of it,” he says, speaking of overcoming the challenge of bringing in another director after Tony Scott’s death.

“Tony was the most generous, positive director I've ever worked for in film. He's not known as an actor's director because he's such a vivid stylist with the camera, but he really loved acting and getting the shot,” Kilmer muses.

In the same interview, he also says he’d do “Heat 2” as well, after starring in the 1995 original opposite Al Pacino. He even provides an idea for the plot – and it involves bringing Pacino and Natalie Portman back as well.
