14 DAY TRIAL // The MTV Video Music Awards 2014 were last night and aired live from The Forum in Inglewood, California, celebrating the best music videos of the previous year. The awards show kicked off with an incendiary performance by 3 of the hottest female artists of the moment.
Those would be Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and Jessie J. First to show up on stage was Ariana Grande, who did a bit from her latest single, “Break Free.” On another stage, Nicki Minaj and a troupe of backup dancers were ready to take over from her, and delve into “Anaconda.”
If you know the song or have heard of the video, you know what it’s about and you probably know to expect a lot of twerking in the video below. That’s exactly what happened, but from the looks of some members in the audience (the Kardashian-Jenner girls, Jennifer Lopez and Rita Ora), it was too much for this type of awards gala. Or they were simply in awe of Nicki’s world-famous derriere.
The last on stage was British songbird Jessie J, who launched into “Bang Bang” before being joined by Ariana and Nicki for a grand finale. There was something funny going on with Nicki’s dress, because she didn’t move her arms at all, holding onto the fabric for dear life.
I assume her zipper tore as she made the quick costume change and it was either that, holding the dress with both her hands, or not show up on stage at all. So kudos to her for putting on a brave face about it.
