14 DAY TRIAL // For the past several days, there’d been some rumors about how Ariana Grande, aka one of pop music’s latest darlings, had found love and happiness in the arms of rapper Big Sean. The two confirmed the reports at the MTV Video Music Awards 2014, as the video below clearly shows.
This isn’t just a story of young (celebrity) love: this is a story of young (celebrity) love with some potential for scandal because of the fact that, earlier this year, Big Sean ended his engagement to “Glee” star Naya Rivera with drumrolls and a Twitter feud.
Let’s go back a few months: in April this year, completely out of the blue, the two announced that they had ended their engagement because the relationship was simply not working anymore. The joint statement was nice and on-point and would have saved both of them a lot of negative media attention if they hadn’t rushed on Twitter the next second to throw mud at each other.
The consensus in the media was that Naya was a bit of a domestic terrorist, frightening Big Sean out of hanging out with his friends and even socializing with fans, especially the female ones. He called the engagement off, and he went to her place to collect his stuff, he also took an expensive Rolex he had given her.
About 3 months later, Naya was married to one of her good friends of many years, with insiders saying that she recycled her entire wedding to Big Sean for this occasion. Her family has denied such reports, though.
With this in mind, if it’s true that Big Sean is dating Ariana, he could be doing it to show Naya that he’s over her. There’s also some talk online among celebrity pundits that there’s a chance Ariana and Big Sean got together when he was still with Naya, which, if true, would explain the nasty breakup they went through.
What we do know for certain right now is that, at last night’s awards gala, they were caught holding hands, which, according to many, simply doesn’t happen among friends. Insert dose of sarcasm here.
The two had been photographed together at the cinema some nights before, which is when the dating rumors started making the rounds. A rep denied them, saying they were just good friends, and as good friends do, they too went out on movie nights together.
As many see it, this footage of Ariana and Big Sean holding hands backstage, when they thought no one was watching, is confirmation they’re an item. Time will tell if that is the case.
