Celebrities and fans alike are criticizing Miley Cyrus for her tasteless performance at the MTV Video Music Awards 2013, and the woman who knows everything about girls wanting to have fun, Cyndi Lauper, is no exception.

Speaking with Australian radio hosts Brig & Lehmo, Lauper blasts Miley for the raunchy performance that served no other purpose than to shock audiences and, at the same time, for agreeing to share the stage with Robin Thicke, E! News reports.

Fans will remember that, shortly after his hit “Blurred Lines” came out, it caused a controversy for apparently promoting date rape.

Cyndi also compares Miley to Lady Gaga, who also performed at the VMAs and, as usual, wore very revealing (close to non-existent) outfits and, like Brooke Shields, argues that Gaga is doing this as part of her art, whereas Miley does not have this excuse.

“Now that was Girl Gone Wild. So sad, so sad. That was like Girls Gone Wild. She’s in a song that literally says that the blurred lines allowed you to – when a woman says no, that she means yes – and that is frightful because that’s date rape. It’s like, that’s okay, it’s cool,” Lauper says.

“And there she is, a young twentysomething trying to prove she can hang with the big boys and girls, you know, basically simulating a Girl Gone Wild video onstage. And I just felt like it was so beneath her and really raunchy, really raunchy. It wasn’t even art. It was raunch,” the singer continues.

“It’s so sad. I felt really sad for her. I know Gaga mooned everybody and I was laughing to my son, ‘This is like the naked video awards,’ but at least it was in art. It was like art. The other one was like raunch,” Lauper adds.

Lady Gaga flew to London immediately after the VMAs and did not comment on what happened in any way. Miley, on the other hand, broke her silence on Twitter to fight back at criticism by saying her gig got more tweets than the Superbowl power cut and that was a “#fact.”
