The first promo for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards has been released and it has Pop Princess Britney Spears as the central figure. You can see it in full below, embedded at the end of the article.

The awards show will take place the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 28 at 9/8c, and will air live.

Though Britney’s involvement in the show is not known yet – meaning, aside from being nominated and most likely in attendance – the video below makes it clear that she will be an important part of it.

The clip sees the singer in the middle of a very lively party, surrounded by dancers in funky crazy outfits and, of course, glitter and pink lighting.

It includes obvious nods to Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and Madonna, suggesting that Spears is the next in line.

In fact, the video actually ends with the pop star in a midriff-baring outfit, with arms outstretched above her head, while the screen behind her reads “A Tribute to Britney Spears. ”

Fans are already hoping she will also perform on the big night, which, considering she’s now on tour to support her “Femme Fatale” album, might actually not be that far-fetched.

If not, at least she will be there. At this year’s VMAs, Britney faces some stiff competition in the Best Pop Video category and Best Choreography, as we also reported back when the nominations were announced.

In the former category, she and her “Till the World Ends” goes up against Katy Perry with “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” Adele and “Rolling in the Deep,” Bruno Mars with “Grenade,” and Pitbull feat. NE-YO, Nayer & Afrojack with “Give Me Everything.”

“Till the World Ends” is also nominated for Best Choreography, with competitors being Beyonce and her fast-paced “Run the World (Girls),” Lady Gaga with “Judas,” Bruno Mars and “The Lazy Song,” and LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock with “Party Rock Anthem.”
