There was a time when the mere sight of Cher in a barely-there outfit would have gotten her in serious trouble with television bosses, and she’s the first to admit to it. This year at the VMAs, though, she had no problem rocking one such outfit.

Fans of the singer – and not only – must surely remember the see-through leotard she wore in the video for “If I Could Turn Back Time,” combined with high leather boots and a leather biker’s jacket.

Though she’s 64 years old, an age when most women would not even dream to wear such an outfit, Cher took out a replica of that infamous outfit for MTV’s big awards night.

Understandably, as the Mirror also points out, by doing so, Cher managed to prove she still got “it.” Not only that, but she could actually compete – and potentially defeat – Lady Gaga in a battle of the “its.”

This could be what Cher also meant when she took to the stage to present Gaga with an award and said she must have set a new record for being the oldest chick with the tiniest outfit in the venue.

“I have shoes older than most of these nominees. I’m the oldest chick with the biggest hair in the littlest costume,” Cher told the cheering audience.

“Back in the day, I used to get thrown off MTV for wearing things like this that seem so tame now. That’s when Lady Gaga was Baby Gaga,” she added.

The outfit, which left very little to the imagination, hiding from sight only those parts of the body one may deem essential, has generated headlines like “How old is Cher again?” and “Gaga outdone by Cher.”

Not that Gaga didn’t put up a decent fight, one may add. Precisely when Cher walked on stage to hand her the award, Gaga came up dressed in a dress made of raw meat, with accessories to match.

“I never thought I’d be asking Cher to hold my meat purse,” she said, as she held out her hand to give Cher a clutch also made of meat.

Gaga also donned a hat made of the same material and ankle-high platform boots, also covered in fine strips of raw meat – which has not failed to get a scathing response from PETA.

“Meat is the decomposing flesh of a tormented animal who didn’t want to die, and after a few hours under the TV lights, it would smell like the rotting flesh it is and likely be crawling in maggots – not too attractive, really,” the group blasted her in a statement sent out to all the major media outlets.
